Every country, every person and every business or organization has been impacted directly or indirectly by COVID-19. And so, it’s no surprise there is an urgent, global effort devoted to testing, therapies and vaccines.
Less obvious though is the critical need for the fast and accurate sanitization and disinfection of wide-ranging commercial, public and service sector facilities. From office buildings, distribution centers, food processing plants, hospitals, nursing homes, and airport and mass transit terminals to colleges and universities, K-12 schools and healthcare, hospitality, government, manufacturing and other industrial facilities -- all must be routinely disinfected for everyone’s safety.

Tubing, though a small component, plays a large role in mitigating the risk of transmitting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. In fact, from the air above your head to the soles of your shoes, Saint-Gobain tubing has helped make a vital difference.
In Asia, Tygon® SPT-60 L is currently in use in drones and robot vehicles to disinfect public places. Covering a wider area from the air, one drone in one day can disinfect 717,600 to 837,200 square yards (600,000 to 700,000 square meters). A task that would normally take 100 workers to complete, according to the customer. Tygon SPT-60 L is peristaltic tubing designed for accurate and repeatable dosing, chemical resistance, flexibility and reliability.
In Europe, Tygon® Chemical is being used in a touchless hand disinfecting device used in public areas like airports and hospitals. Tygon Chemical tubing is a high-performance, co-extruded product specifically formulated to provide an ideal combination of chemical resistance and pump life. Its inert ultra-smooth, plasticizer-free bore resists the absorption/adsorption of aqueous fluids while the Tygon outer jacket provides long flex life in peristaltic pumps.
In North America, silicone tubing manufactured at Saint-Gobain’s Beaverton, MI plant is used in hand dispensing equipment and footwear sanitizing units used in manufacturing and healthcare environments. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the demand for sanitizers in hospitals and production plants has increased dramatically as has the need for silicone tubing with its good chemical resistance and flexibility for a customer that provides food processing and healthcare industries hand and surface hygiene solutions.
Globally, Versilon™ 2001 is used in electrostatic spray systems to transfer multiple disinfecting chemicals for environmental infection control. These systems have become the front line system used to disinfect hospitals, schools, colleges and universities, hotels, offices, cruise ships, public transportation and airlines worldwide.
